We technically have another month until winter is officially here so I don’t feel bad about writing on the loveliness of autumn. How wonderful a creator we have to give us seasons of such beauty! Each season offers us a unique setting for all kinds of endeavors…each set aside and particular to that season.
This autumn has been filled with much good and much heartache as well. In the hard times…I am tempted to hole up and shut down. Much like the creatures in wintertime. It is tempting to do the same…wanting to seclude ourselves and bury our hardships inside and wait around for Spring to arrive. But in the hard times I’ve found it best to refuse this and to lean into what it is I’m feeling and lean into the arms of Him who knows all and comforts the weary. In the leaning in, there is something to learn and ways He is asking me to grow.
So this morning I am not only doing that but listing out the things I love most about this season…this season in life and this season in nature. We are called to be thankful in ALL circumstances…not just when everything is going our way.
So here is a list of things I am enjoying…things small, or big, that remind me of His ever-present faithfulness and love for me…
Warm soups that nourish the body and soul
Chai tea with cream and maple syrup
Chubby baby snuggles
Children who are maturing and growing into truly kind and honorable young people
Cozy couches with heavy quilts all around
Reading by candlelight
Planning out our winter handicrafts/projects
Frost on leaves in the mornings
Family and friends that make me laugh until it hurts
Painting in the quiet
Jazz music while cleaning and cooking
Early mornings with my husband before all are awake
Coffee (when am I not grateful for coffee)
Warm oatmeal with baked apples on top
The colors of autumn
Old impressionist still life paintings
Gifts of home made bone broth or herbal tinctures for flu season from dear friends
Breads and warm baked goods from my little kitchen
And last but certainly not least…a loving Father who is never burdened or wearied by the things we need or the ways we simply need His comfort or His provision or for Him to simply listen to us. He is an ever present help in times of hardship or trouble. I am so thankful for Him.
I hope wherever you are…you are seeing the good and truly lovely and are thinking on these things!
